The ecology field has been prepared as an expanse for conducting various outdoor environmental studies using its natural environment, as well as for conducting research activities.
The natural habitat of the eastern region of the prefecture is re produced to create a favorable environment for wildlife to thrive in the land of 2.2 hectares. Reproduced are various types of woods, a bamboo grove, a field, a paddy field, streams, reservoirs and stone boundaries based on a typical 'sato yama (in Japanese)' in the eastern area of the prefecture in the 1960's. Such 'sato yama ' is the name of a land area which was produced and managed for people to live, and a variety of flora and fauna could prosper through man's management of it rather than leaving it totally to nature.
The ecology field is a model case for environmental creation to consider the symbiosis between mankind and nature.
Prior to preparing the ecology field, research was carried out into the environmental structure of the living area of local creatures, animal and plant types, and the vegetation structure, while secondary nature in the agricultural environment has been recovered using the biotope method. Plenty of greenery is arranged to encourage the natural involvement of local wildlife as well as actively implementing 'recycling type tree-planting' measures in which surplus trees and topsoil from the construction work nearby are transplanted.
The ecology field has been prepared for outdoor environmental education to increase people’s understanding of environmental issues as well as for studying techniques to reproduce natural environments that have been destroyed.
